About Us<\/h2>\n

\nMy name is Diana W Roach CCH. I am a Certified Clinical Herbalist with over 30 years of experience in the field of herbal medicine. During this time, I and my husband,Cecil have owned and operated an herbal extraction and formulation business, as well as two vitamin\/supplement\/herb stores. The first herbal store, Evergreen Herbal Market, was founded in Rio Rancho, New Mexico in 1994. The second, Village Apothecary, was founded in Cedar Crest, NM in 2000. Both stores are still in operation as well as the\nextract business, though we sold them many years ago. I first learned of MM in 1992 and went on his northern NM week-long field trip. I was hooked, so in January Michael’s 500 hour plus 3 big field trips for my certifying herbalist class began and I was there! I received my Clinical Herbalist Certification in June of 1993 and in 1994 we opened our first store, Evergreen Herbal Market. I have been studying his work and using it ever since.

My husband Cecil Roach has had an interest in computers and programming since the Commodore 64 all the way back in 1982. Over the years he developed programs for both Windows and Apple. At Evergreen Herbal Market Cecil ran the back-end of the store, created inventory tracking software, Lab Process tracking, data and lot number retaining, and more. At this time, he began compiling Michael’s booklets into what would later become this program. I found the program oh so useful as I worked with customers and developed extract formulas. Two years ago, Cecil began to rework and update this software to what it is now, The Herbal Research guide. Better yet, we decided to include the Formulation sub-program rather than\nhaving that be a second stand-alone program. This formulation component\nwhich includes ALL of Michael\u2019s Western Constitutional approach to\nHerbal Medicine. It is really the heart of Michael\u2019s teaching all in one, easy\nto use Software package.\n <\/p>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n \n

About Michael Moore:<\/h2>\n

Michael Moore was a renowned American herbalist, author, and founder of the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine. An expert on the medicinal plants of the western United States, especially the Pacific West, Mountain West, and Desert Southwest regions; he authored several influential books on botanical medicine such as \u201cMedicinal Plants of the Pacific West\u201d,\n\u201cMedicinal Plants of the Desert and Canyon West\u201d and more. They documented hundreds of medicinal plant species, their medicinal and other uses, propagation and other tidbits. He also founded and directed the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine in Bisbee Arizona, then Santa\nFe, NM and later in Albuquerque New Mexico, where he trained many student herbalists over 28 years. His unique teaching style which blended deep knowledge, humor, and occasional profanity made him a memorable and impactful mentor and teacher.<\/p>\n <\/section>\n \n

Our Goals<\/h2>\n

Our first goal when developing this software was to provide as much of Michael’s information as possible in a clear and understandable manner. The second was to make the program as user friendly as possible. We hope this program will benefit the herbalist community as a whole by providing a new and easier way to access Michael Moore’s knowledge.<\/p>\n

SWSBM<\/h2>\n

The Southwest School of Botanical Medicine (SWSBM), founded by herbalist Michael R.S. Moore, offered in person intensive botanical medicine programs from 1980 until 2006. This site contains information he collected, discovered, elucidated, and cataloged about medicinal plants, after a lifetime spent using, selling, and teaching about them. Scanned texts of classic Eclectic and Physiomedical books, ecological and habitat distributions of medicinal plants in the Western US, and downloadable versions of his teaching materials are also available for viewing.
